Sponsor an Asimina triloba tree ("pawpaw")

$15.00

This is sustainable, ecologically minded band merchandise.

Asimina ("paw paw") are the large edible fruit of the Asimina triloba tree. This forgotten fruit is ripe for a month in late summer, but has been largely forgotten by modern Americans due to their short shelf life. The aromatic tropical fruit tastes unlike anything else, but contains hints of ripe banana, non-acidic mango, and caramel.

I raise asimina trees as part of my native nursery project. You can sponsor a seedling Asimina triloba, which I will plant on your behalf. Trees will be planted in suburban/urban residential settings, free of charge for the homeowner. This work is mostly done in Durham, NC, where the pawpaw tree is native but rare in landscaped environments. I will find a recipient for each sponsored tree, but would also be happy to plant sponsored trees in specified nearby locations (or facilitate local pickup) if requested.

Planting occurs during the second half of winter/early spring, before warm weather and bud break. These seedlings were planted in fall/winter 2021. Please email with any questions, or to see more pictures of the process.
